Field Services

Our Field Services combine predictive and preventive services, to help your plant move from a reactive, repair-focused stance to a managed program designed for improved reliability and uptime.

Predictive and Preventive Maintenance Services

IPS predictive services include vibration and modal analysis on motors, blowers and fans, motor efficiency testing for a high-definition view of reliability and efficiency, Doble and Partial Discharge testing, thermography and ultrasonic testing. We offer dye penetrant testing to check fan wheels for cracks and pre-warranty expiration inspections and consults on all motors and mechanical components. IPS preventive services include cryogenic, dry ice cleaning for blowers and fans, dynamic balancing and precision laser alignment and lubrication programs.

Turbine Generator Diagnostics

h Our affiliation with Monarch Electric, an IPS company, gives us the capability to provide complete field services, including inspections, diagnostics and on-site hard coil rewinds on your turbine generators.

Visual inspections can reveal problems, such as ground shorts and rotor strikes, as well as cracks, shrinkage, coil abrasion and corona discharge. We combine these inspections with a review of all recorded and measured data to reveal how your existing insulation system performs.

Electrical measurements on your generators include Megger, Polarization Index, Hi-pot and Surge testing, EL CID (Electromagnetic Core Imperfection Detector) testing to detect insulation failure between laminations, corona maintenance and testing, and partial discharge testing. We can apply the appropriate resins, when necessary, to slow down PD activity and postpone your next planned outage.

B-Stage Fully Cured Coil Rewinds

In addition to these generator diagnostics, we also offer B-Stage fully cured coil rewinds. In a fully cured or hard coil rewind, coils with insulating materials impregnated with B-stage resin are individually pressed with heated forms to catalyze the resin, and post cured. The fully cured coils are then inserted in the stator slots and tightly packed in place with additional insulating materials. We test coils individually as each one is manufactured and installed, to prevent any dielectric impairment in the finished unit. During production, coils are tested at voltages that far exceed the operating voltage of the unit, to ensure that they can withstand any abnormal voltage stresses imposed by the power system.

In most cases, dielectric and thermal performance can be significantly improved, as today’s insulating materials are superior to those used by OEMs in the 20th century.
